Teaching Our Youth to

Work Hard

And Earn the Privilege to

Play Hard

We’re teaching our local youth the importance of working hard, not just for financial gain but to instill discipline and appreciation for all things in life. We feel that it is important they understand that the only way to achieve the life they’re dreaming of is to put in the work. We’re here to teach them how and give them the tools to make positive life choices.

The Dukes Hands-on Training program provides trade training for local youth in the areas of motor mechanics, lawn care, electrical work, and home repairs with the direction of licensed experts in each field. This after-school and summer training will help prepare our local teens to acquire and maintain a steady job after high school, as a career or for sustainability while they complete a college degree.

The work ethic and money management taught on and off the job will also help our youth prepare for adulthood. The goal is to improve the overall socioeconomic condition of our community and the surrounding county by training our youth to become productive and self-sustaining adults.

The community benefits of our training program continue through the offering of free services to local people in need. Our youth will put their training to work by cleaning up leaves and debris from yards and completing minor repairs on homes of community members who are unable to otherwise afford such upkeep.

Dukes Hands-on Training currently has the capacity of training and transporting six kids per day. Our goal is to expand this number to fifteen to twenty kids by 2023. Your donations will also help our program purchase safety equipment, small tools, and healthy lunches for the kids.

We are requesting donations to help fund our youth training program. All resources received will be used to supply our local youth with necessary equipment and wages in the completion of home services for the elderly and poverty-stricken members of our community. As the poorest county in Michigan, Lake County has a vast need for affordable and free home repair and lawn care.
